VANCOUVER HEAT PUMP REBATE GUIDE
Check the rebate path before choosing equipment or signing.
BC rebate rules depend on the home's primary heating fuel, utility account, building type, household eligibility, equipment, contractor, invoice date, and application timing. Start with the official program—not a rebate promise in an ad.

THE USEFUL STARTING POINT
A rebate screening is not a rebate approval.
ComfortScout can include rebate interest in a homeowner's project brief, but only the program administrator can confirm eligibility. Funding, amounts, equipment lists, contractor requirements, and deadlines can change. Keep the complete contract price visible and do not authorize work based only on an estimated rebate.
For many Vancouver homeowners, the first split is whether the home is primarily heated with electricity and whether the household may qualify for the income-tested Energy Savings Program. Fossil-fuel conversions follow different program tables and conditions. Existing heat pumps, multi-unit buildings, rental or strata utility accounts, emergency replacements, and major renovations can change or remove eligibility.
1. HOME RENOVATION REBATE
All-income path for eligible electric-heated homes.
Better Homes BC lists the Home Renovation Rebate Program for BC households at any income level. For eligible homes replacing qualifying hard-wired electric heating, the current published maximum is $4,000 for whole-home heat-pump heating or $1,500 for partial-home heating.
The program requires an eligible home and utility account, qualifying equipment, and installation by a Home Performance Contractor Network member. The heat pump must replace the applicable electric heating system and meet sizing, product-list, and installation requirements. Replacing an existing heat pump is not eligible under the published electric-conversion path.
Important: Do not assume 'up to $4,000' means every installation receives $4,000. The program's full requirements and funding availability control.
2. CURRENT BC HYDRO BONUS
The 2026 bonus has a narrow payment and application window.
BC Hydro currently advertises up to $1,000 in bonus rebates for an eligible air-source heat-pump upgrade completed, invoiced, and paid between August 1 and October 31, 2026, with a complete rebate application submitted by November 30, 2026.
BC Hydro says bonus funding is limited, first-come first-served, and may change or end without notice. A project scheduled near the deadline should not be sold as guaranteed to receive the bonus.
- Confirm base-program eligibility first
- Confirm the exact installation, invoice, payment, and application dates
- Use an eligible HPCN contractor and qualifying equipment
- Keep all required invoices, model information, and load documents
3. ENERGY SAVINGS PROGRAM
Income-qualified rebates require approval before installation.
The CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program uses household-income, property-assessment, home, utility, current-fuel, and equipment rules. The requirements effective July 6, 2026 say participants must pre-register and confirm eligibility before installing upgrades.
Approved applicants receive an eligibility code; codes issued for applications received on or after July 6, 2026 are valid for upgrades completed within three months of approval. Upgrades must be purchased, supplied, and installed by an approved Registered Contractor for the program.
Important: If this path might apply, pause before signing or installing. Pre-registration is not paperwork that can safely be recreated after the work starts.
4. REBATE-SAFE QUOTE
Make the contractor prove the eligibility chain.
Ask which exact program and upgrade category the quote uses, whether the home and current heating system meet the rules, whether the company has the required program status, and whether the proposed matched system appears on the current eligible product list.
The quote and final invoice should contain the information required by the program, which may include matched model numbers, AHRI reference, paid balance, heat-load documents, removal evidence, itemized rebate, and permit or inspection records. The contractor should explain who submits the application and what happens if the program denies it.
- Program name, eligibility category, current maximum, and official source link
- Pre-registration or approval code required before installation
- HPCN or Energy Savings Program Registered Contractor status
- Eligible matched equipment, sizing documents, invoice, and submission deadline

COMMON QUESTIONS
HVAC rebates questions from Vancouver homeowners.
How much is the Vancouver heat pump rebate in 2026?+
There is no single Vancouver amount. Better Homes BC currently lists up to $4,000 for an eligible whole-home heat pump replacing electric heating, while income-qualified and fossil-fuel conversion paths have different rules and amounts. Eligibility, funding, equipment, contractor, and timing requirements apply.
Do I need to apply before installing a heat pump?+
For the Energy Savings Program, yes: the current rules require pre-registration and confirmed eligibility before installation. Other programs have different processes, so verify the official path before signing or starting work.
Can any HVAC contractor install a rebate-eligible heat pump?+
No. Programs can require an HPCN member or an approved Energy Savings Program Registered Contractor, in addition to licences and Vancouver permit certification. Verify the company in the official program search.
Can ComfortScout guarantee my rebate?+
No. ComfortScout can help organize the rebate question, but only the program administrator can determine eligibility and payment. Program rules and funding can change.
